British Giant

Introduced into the UK Early 1960s
In the late 1940s breeders brought in other colours of Flemish Giants from America and set up a national breed club to cater for a British variety. The first British Giant rabbits were created by Richard Kirk and exhibited at Alexandra Palace in the early 1960s. Later several colours were recognised but this gentle giant soon lost favour with exhibitors and its national breed club was disbanded in 2014.

Californian

Introduced into the UK 1958
An American creation, it was not until 1960 that large numbers were imported to the UK to boost the commercial meat trade.
Sadly it has become one of our rarer breeds.

Chinchilla

Introduced into the UK 1919
First exhibited in France in 1913, the Chinchilla immediately became one of England’s most popular fur breeds.

Chinchilla Giganta

Introduced into the UK early 1920s
Chris Wren of Hampton Wick created the Chinchilla Giganta by crossing French Chinchillas with Flemish Giants, his aim being to produce a large, graceful rabbit with good meat qualities and a good pelt.

Continental Giant

Introduced into the UK 2005
One of the largest and oldest breeds of rabbit, believed to have been bred in Europe as far back as the 16th century. The Coloured is a big solid rabbit giving an impression of power. The White is similar but it can be finer boned and more elegant in appearance and should be posed Continental style (i.e. standing at the front).

Deilenaar

Introduced into the UK late 1980s
Created in Holland just before the 1939-45 war from a mix of Belgian Hare, Chinchilla and New Zealand Reds and first standardised there in 1940. A friendly, lively rabbit with an eyecatching coat colour.
